Why Bullying In School Must Be Addressed Publicly

Newsvine.com, Northern California. After reading about the young man who was attacked by bullies in New Mexico/www.koat.com/cnn-news/17481281/detail.html> It became clear to me that this sort of incident couldn't be limited only to a small group of concerned school faculty but must be part of a larger public effort to create awareness of the problems involved in student violence and correct or instill fear of disciplinary action in students if this sort of harassment were to be started or repeated.

While I'm not saying that in every single case, extremely harsh examples should be made of the juvenile delinquents who took part in the beating, their complete maliciousness and disregard for another student's rights as a person and his safety and their ignorance of normal "everyday" sorts of human rights makes them culpable for the attack and they deserve punishment, regardless of the circumstances.

No student deserves a physical beating by students and if there was any misinterpretation of student behavior or perceived differences based upon personality, race behavior or some other "normal" human factor, then student complaints of several degrees of differentiation can normally be filed with the school Principal, Vice Principal or with a school teacher for handling, if I'm not mistaken, within the school or district where the event occurred.

It should also be noted that children grow at different rates and mature at an assortment of measurable and non-measurable rates and also understand different behavior and people at different times of their lives. Learning violence against people at the discretion of videogames, media or even absorbing violence culturally, can lead any sort of otherwise normal student to criminal activity, and we, as students, teachers, and parents and most importantly, community leadership representatives of every involved background should ideally take active responsibility in the protection of children both at school and at home, in order to prevent intolerable attacks such as the one referred to and also unnecessary injuries to both students and adults who are involved in the education process.
